Born in Jacksonville, Florida, August 1953. Graduated from the Naval Academy in June 1976. Following flight training, designated as a Naval Flight Officer, March 1978.

Naval War College, MA (Strategic Studies), MS (Management, Salve Regina College), 1986-1987.VP-23 (Brunswick, Me).

Operations Officer, 1 North Atlantic deployment, 1 Mediterranean deployment, 1987-1989.
